This scattered archipelago is found east of Papua New Guinea. The estimated 2,000 land form is mostly made up of mountainous islands and some are coral atolls. It was believed that the islands were populated by humans during the early 2,000 BC, and this was discovered by Spanish explorer Alvaro de Mendana. The Solomon Islands are place of a lot of natural wonders and home to some species that are not found anywhere but in these islands only. Here are some of the natural wonders that are popular in Guam.

Tenaru Falls
Your vacation will never be boring if you experience the spectacular Tenaru Falls in the largest island in this archipelago, Guadalcanal. This falls is known to be the most beautiful in the entire South Pacific. Of course, you must traverse the bushes of the Lengo and Malango Mountains for at least two hours before you can enjoy the refreshing waters given by the Tenaru falls. For some years, the falls was closed for tourists because of the coup d’état that happened in on 2000. But after that, the visits returned to the usual and the beauty of the Tenaru Falls has never changed.

Lake Te’Nggano
Residing near Rennell Island, this is considered one of the most beautiful freshwater lakes because of its habitat provided to unique endemic species of flora and fauna. Inhabitants near the lake call it Tegano or Tungano which means big water because of its 10 kilometer wide having an area of 155 square kilometer. This lake actually occupies about 18% of Rennell Island. Animals living in the area are plentiful with some having unique physical features such as the coconut crab, Rennell Starling and Rennell Shrikebill. It was recorded that more than 700 insects have been identified in Rennell and Bellona islands.

Marovo Lagoon
The largest saltwater lagoon in the world is found in Solomon Islands – the Morovo Lagoon. This is located north of Vangunu Island. This lagoon is a flourished home to floras and faunas because of its clean waters and abundant resources suitable for animals to live. Morovo lagoon is even nominated as the World Heritage Site. The lagoon is covered with Rom volcanic islands in which some are still active and coral islets that provide home to fishes and other aquatic animals. This is why many tourist love to spend their time relaxing here in Marovo Lagoon. Fishing, swimming, walking, or just taking a break to the stressful job, is the activities that one can do in this hospitable island.

Munda
Around this island, the waters are alive with the abundant life it possesses. The archipelago of Solomon Islands has been made a battlefield during the World War on 1942. Just about in the Western Province, you can find the Roviana Lagoon where some remains of the World War II has given home to fishes and other marine animals. This is a perfect spot for divers that want to see the spectacular marine life in Solomon Islands, along with the Rainbow Passage which has massive sea-fans and amazing coral formations. And because of the perfect home that the corals give, fishes are abundant here. And because of the plentiful fishes in the area, marine predators are also present to hunt the small fishes. Sharks and rays are among the predators that patrols in the Munda waters.

Vihona Falls
If adventure is what you want, then try going to Vihona Falls by just walking. It is not that you have a choice, because the path to the falls is found deep in the rainforest of Guadalcanal in the Lhamas Mountain range. This is a great trip for adventurers because along the way, you can marvel at the amazing life that the rainforest has provided. But if you are really tired to go on adventuring, then just request a trip with a helicopter.

Sitting in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the Marshall Islands has been withstanding the trading winds of the world’s largest ocean. But the islands have been one of the best tourist destinations of the world because of its innate beauty that is bestowed by nature which keeps telling people to come back for more. If you are looking for a distant place to unwind with your family or whoever, the Marshall Islands could be the best place for you. In this article, we shall explore this pacific beauty and take a closer look of what nature has prepared for us.

Jaluit Lagoon
Our first destination is a lagoon which is a home to a very scenic waterfall, the Jaluit lagoon in the Jaluit Atoll. The waterfall is just short, but the water is enough to invite you for a quick dive and for your body to cool down. The place is very ideal for family outdoor trips and for people who want to leave their busy lives and get in touched with nature. When in Jaluit Lagoon, never fail in taking landscape photos of the lagoon and the waterfall, these are perfect photo subjects for you. So the Jaluit Lagoon is a must visit place when you are in the Marshall Islands.

Majuro Atoll
The Majuro Atoll is the site of the Marshall Islands’ airport, where an airstrip gives tourists an access to the island. But beyond that advantage of being accessible, the reason why people keep coming back to the Majuro Atoll is the super blue waters, white beaches and coconut tree-lined shores. To enjoy the atoll, a sunbathe would be great. For kids and family outings, snorkeling will truly bring them delight. The colorful corals and different species of colorful fishes will make them love the sea environment. So the Majuro Atoll should be one of you destinations.

Kwajalein Atoll
Kwajalein Island, located in the southernmost part of the atoll is the largest island in this atoll while the Roi Namur is an island located up north. Both of the islands played an important role during World War Two. But let’s not talk about guns and battles, we are here for nature’s business. The atoll is showered with beautiful views of the pacific and the waves during the surfing season will surely satisfy your surfing cravings. If you do not surf, well, a nice sunset view in the afternoon is one way to relax. The mix of cloud, skies and water color reflections lit by the sun is such a pleasure in the eyes.

Mili Atoll
Have you ever been to a place where it seems like no one is with you? In Mili Atoll, you’ll feel like you’re being castaway, but with the delightful treats of island, I bet one would prefer to stay here for relaxation. The Mili atoll is the second largest island in the Marshall Islands covering an area of 5.8 square-miles. That may seem too small, but the thing is, the corals, the sea breeze and fresh coconuts are a haven for beach lovers.

Calalin Island
The names itself sound like someone’s calling you to enjoy the luscious seafood treats of the Calalin Islands. It is located in the Majuro atoll and just like in any other Marshall Island natural wonder, it is composed of coconut trees, clear waters, huge corals and fine white sand. A trip to the Marshall Islands can only be complete if you get to hop along the islands in atolls, in that way, you feel like you own every single bit of pleasure coming from nature. So make sure that when in the Marshall Islands, visit the Calalin Island and enjoy the treats that are waiting for you!

The people of the Cocos Islands have striven towards developing their tourism industry as the main fuel for their economy. Drifting languidly on the Indian Ocean, the Territory of the Cocos Islands can be halfway between Sri Lanka and Australia. It is composed of two breathtaking atolls and 27 coral islets. Among the islets, two are inhabited namely the West Island and Pulu Selma. The Keeling Islands, another name for the territory, consists mainly of two prominent atolls in the north and south. Generally, the land is filled with lush vegetation and palm trees suited for the marine tropical climate of the islands. Without any lakes or rivers, Cocos Islands have limited freshwater sources. The northern atoll of the territory resembles a horseshoe as it is an incomplete coral ring with only a tiny opening into the lagoon. The southern atoll has more scattered islets, 24 tiny landmass, bearing both Home Island and West Island.

Horsburgh Island

First of the known destinations in Cocos Islands is Pulu Luar or Horsburgh Island which is landmarked by a tiny lagoon in the north-east part, almost to the center of the islet. A population of deer has actually been taken care of in the past for hunting. Additionally, many migratory birds nest on its shores thus a lot of tourists come here for bird-watching.

Home Island

One of the two inhabited islands to which contain a population of approximately 500 Malays is Home Island or Pulu Selma. The central region of this land is the village of Bantam. A tour around the lagoon will give you a glimpse of the clear, turquoise waters that displays the complex coral reef formations. With only about 500 people, the island is generally unspoiled so there is much to discover in this paradise. Kite-surfing and sunbathing along the white sandy beaches gives you a true holiday relaxation that you’ve been looking for. There are also regions in the island that is vegetated and relatively elevated to give you a clear panoramic view of the ocean. The pristine waters, coral complexities, and the friendly people is an experience to look forward to in Home Island.

West Island

Despite being the capital of the territory of the Cocos Island, West Island only contains approximately 100 residents. The island has been made to attract and welcome curious tourists with the construction of airports and tourist accommodation. There’s a contrast between heavy rains and drought experienced by the island because of its marine climate. Because of being a relatively unspoiled area, snorkeling and strolling around the small island is in store for a usual holiday. Sunrise and sunsets, snorkeling and a look around the territory are a good start for a West Island tour.

Pulu Keeling

The most protected area in the territory of the Cocos Islands is the North Keeling Island with its almost C-shaped figure for an atoll and the many natural structures it has to offer. This is because the wildlife and vegetation in the island is highly sensitive to any kind of human disturbances. It is the most important region in terms of biodiversity since it contains the extremely endangered Cocos Buff-banded Rail which can only survive in the environment offered by Pulu Keeling. Moreover, significant populations of birds breed on the shores of this island. These two populations of wildlife are prone to hunting which has made this North Keeling Island a valuable treasure of Cocos Islands.

South Island

The 24 coral islets of South Island have much to offer with the variety of land features and natural sites it contains. Containing numerous lagoons, bays and shores as well as wide coastlines and the coral formations within the 24 islets is a real natural exploration.

Australia is a continent that is usually called “the land down under” because of its geographic position in the planet. This country is one of the smallest continents but is considered to be in the second place when it comes to country size. Australia is one of the top exporters of items such as diamonds, wool, alumina, lead and sheep and with this their economy is increasing steadily. Their climate may vary widely across the continent and depending on the season, from tropical to temperate. This is also a pace filled with natural wonders that some are even recognized already throughout the world such as the magnificent Great Barrier Reef, and the unique kangaroos that are abundant in Australia. Here are some of the natural wonders that are located in Australia.

Great Barrier Reef
The beauty of this very vast reed system can be seen outside the planet, which makes it the only natural wonder that can be visible from that distance. This is found northeast of Australia and covers an area of more than 300,000 square kilometers. The Great Barrier Reef is composed almost 3000 separate reefs and about 900 islands that make up 2,600 kilometers of the total area. The composition of these reefs are millions or billions of tiny organisms named coral polyps, which serves also as home to small fishes. This is the reason why they made Great Barrier Reef one of the seven natural wonders of the world – for its majestic scenery and the biodiversity that it possesses. Tourists can enjoy scuba diving in specific spots to take a look at the wonderful life under the surface of the waters of Australia.

Mount Augustus
This enormous rock is located in the center of the West Australian outback that is home to aborigines’ art and culture, and the wildlife. Commonly termed as Burringurrah by the locals, Mount Augustus has a height that reaches 860 meters above the plains that surrounds this area and is actually double the size of Uluru, making it the biggest rock on the planet. This rock is place for the aborigines that date back thousands of years ago, with evidence of their living such as weird writings on the rocks and mysterious caves. Mount Augustus also has natural springs that are important to the people living near the area such as the Wadjari people.

Jewel Cave
This is the most popular cave in Western Australia in terms of tourist visits. Covered in the wide Karri forest of the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge, the Jewel Cave is situated below sea level in which it has a depth of 42 meters with a length of almost 2 kilometers. Although this cave is only accessible to tourists for about 40% of the area, the majestic scene is already enough to give the visitors a breathtaking experience, with stalactites and stalagmites forming and its natural light produced. People who have experienced venturing on the Jewel cave say that it is like walking underwater but with no water around. This cave also holds one of the longest straw stalactites, with a length of 580 centimeters.

The Pinnacles
Just about 3 hours drive north of Western Australia’s capital and the biggest city, Perth, is a place with great mystery and wonder residing. The Pinnacles is one of Australia’s most wonderful landscapes because of the limestone spires that grow for more than a meter in the sands of the area. These pinnacles were believed to be created several million years passed by the erosion of the sand that contains seashells. Tourists can enjoy these unique formations and the locals even made an interpretative dance on how the Pinnacles were made.

Horizontal Waterfalls
Found in the Talbot Bay which is I the Buccaneer Archipelago, there is an enormous tidal motion that is regarded as the biggest in the world. The waterfall-like motion of the ocean water is made because of the passing of these waters on a narrow passage, thus creating a water pressure and produces somewhat like waterfalls.

In the northern islands in New Zealand, you will get to see the Orakei Korako Geyser land. From the name itself, it describes the might of geothermal activities happening in that place every day. These geysers eject water with such power due to the extreme heat from under the surface and pressure causing the water to be flying out in the air. Think of it as a waterfall but in reverse. Aside from this feature, Orakei Korako also provides a suitable home for some flora and fauna that is native there. Orakei Korako is the perfect place for tourists that want to relax with hot springs, nature walks and watching views on this wondrous Geyser land.

Mt. Cook
The highest mountain in New Zealand having 12,316 high that lies on the Southern Alps. The peak of this mountain is named Aoraki, this is New Zealand’s one of the best alpine park. Folk legend tells of a young boy, Aoraki, being stranded in his tilted canoe on a reef along with his brothers. They climbed up on one side of the wreckage and they were frozen by the incoming south wind, thus forming the Southern Alps. Because of the magnificent landscape and haven for animals and plants, Mt. Cook has been declared a national park in 1953 for protection.

Unique Animals
Because of the geographic drift that separated New Zealand from South America, their animals have adapted to the new climate and land profile that they are now living. Evolution has played a big part on selecting the most suitable creature to roam in this island. Flightless small birds called Kiwi, a dinosaur-like lizard named as tuatara, and the annoying mountain parrot named Kea are some of these unique animals that live in the island. But unfortunately, these one-of-a-kind creatures are marked as endangered due to the endless hunting. They are endemic in New Zealand and have unique physical characteristics that make them a wonder.

Punakaiki Pancake Rock Formation
These giant pancake-like stones are made by a long process that took millions of years ago when the decaying creatures solidify on the seabed. After some catastrophes, these seabeds were exposed and became rock formations. With the help of factors such as wind an acid, the delicious looking rocks are now made. Found in the Putai Area, just about 30 minute walk from the main highway at Punakaiki, you can have a great day once you get to see this wonderful formations. No human can create this kind of art but Mother Nature itself.

Scattered in the western part of the Pacific Ocean in the equatorial belt, 607 tiny islands form the Federal States of Micronesia. This nation is divided in to four recognized states namely Yap, Chuuk, Ponpei and Kosrae. In early history, the tropical islands emerged as a result of continuous volcanic activity. Their geographical features range from steep mountains to coral atolls to deep volcanic protrusions. In time, the four states have developed their own distinct culture and tradition. Yap, the furthest in the west, is generally known for its “stone money.” Chuk, reflected by its name, is a mountainous island. Pohnpei, the most densely populated, is also one the wettest places in the world. Lastly, Kosrae, founded in the eastern part of Micronesia, is sometimes called “the island of the sleeping lady” because of the shape of the island resembles a woman’s figure. Let’s take a closer look and discover Micronesia’s natural beauty.

Ant atoll
Off the south-western shore of Pohnpei, about seven miles away, the Ant Atoll is one of the most glorious coral islands to witness with its sandy, white beaches, palm trees and peaceful ambience. Tourists who take a 2-hour ride to take a look find Ant Atoll to be an ideal place, like many others in Micronesia, for snorkelling and swimming. There no permanent residents in this atoll as it was abandoned once by a population of 500, perhaps to move in to mainland developed Pohnpei. Because of the lack of human settlements, the biological diversity of the island is also greatly affected. This is also because of humans as well since illegal fishing and hunting is not monitored in the uninhabited atoll.

Mount Tonaachaw
Located on Wena, the capital of Chuuk, the 230m mountain is the highest elevation in Weno and is celebrated in one of the local’s famous legends about a god named Sowukachaw who visited the island of Chuuk and embedded a basalt rock on the summit of the mountain from he started ruling the island. Climbing this mountain will give a clear panoramic view on the island of Chuuk and a beautiful sunrise during early morning.

Wiya Bird Cave
Among Micronesia’s many caverns, the Wiya Bird Cave of Kosrae, is the one of the most popular. It houses thousands of birds particularly the swiftlet bird that is only found in this cave. The whole cavern runs through and opens at the other side of the island. And just like most of the islands of Micronesia, it holds a legend of its own as the residents believed that giants used to reside in the cave and were the ones who taught the first Kosraean locals counting from 1 to 10.

Utra-Walung Marine Park
Another natural wonder in Kosrae, the Utra-Walung Marine Park is one of the conserved areas in Micronesia. It can be found south-west of Kosrae near the village of Tafunsak. And due to the fact that its western edge is exposed to the sea, it contains regions of wide-spread mangroves and it teems with healthy, undisturbed coral reefs. On the mainland itself, the hardwood forests, besides sheltering a variety of flora and fauna, also contains rare types of trees such as nypa fruticans, asplenium and sonartia alba. From the three ecosystems this park hold, one can conclude how valuable Utra-Walung is in a biological perspective.

Lidudhniap Waterfall
The state of Pohnpei has been richly blessed with a number of exquisite waterfalls, one of which is the Waterfall of Lidudhniap or popularly called “Twin Falls”. It is located near the village of Kolonia. Its water is fed by the Nanpil River which passes through a natural pool and eventually falls through the waterfalls. Locals have made the site a traditional place to swim on its pools and to drink sakau together.

This island is the largest among the Marianas Archipelago that is located northwest of the Pacific Ocean. History tells us that this country has been founded by the same person who navigated and reached the Philippines, Ferdinand Magellan. That explains the existence of the Filipino ethnicity in Guam. But before the arrival of the Spanish colonizers in Guam, this land has been already occupied by the native Chamorro that migrated from Southeast Asia about 4000 BC. And with the Spanish conquest during the early 1500, the primary religion of this place is Roman Catholic. Today, Guam is a territory of the United States, holding control over the lands. The island showcases nature by its magnificent landmarks and its biodiversity. They protect these wonders for preservation and tourism purposes.

Two Lovers Point
Locally termed as Puntan Dos Amantes, a place for beauty and romance, the Two Lovers Point is one of the islands rich natural wonder. With its cliff line that rises for more than 250 feet, it possesses a legend that was believed to be the place where the two young couple whose relationship was not favored by the female’s parents, both leaped in this cliff and was never seen again. The Two Lovers Point is now developed for tourism that allows one to watch the sparkling Philippine Sea while relaxing on this breathtaking place. If you are planning a tour in Guam, then make sure that you give time to enjoy the wonderful scenes found in the Two Lovers Point.

One of a Kind Animal
Guam is also a place that is a good place not only for humans but also for animals that seek shelter in this tropical island. One animal has been marked as Guam’s Official Territorial Bird is the Ko’ko or Guam Rail. They are like New Zealand’s Kiwi in their feature that they have lost their flying abilities due to evolution. These Ko’ko was the dominant bird in Guam because it had no natural enemies in the past. But when the brown tree snake was introduced in the country, this flightless bird obviously had no chance of escaping from the new predator that invaded the land. This resulted to the drastic decrease of the number of Ko’ko in Guam and has become endangered.

Exquisite Waters of Guam
The waters in Guam have been untouched for many years now and it has been one of the main tourist attractions for scuba diving and snorkeling. In their clean waters reside numerous coral reefs where plenty of marine animals live and other remains of the World War II such as torpedoes, ships and planes. The abundance of marine life in their waters is due to the geographic location of Guam in which it is near the deepest trench in the world, the Marianas Trench. The warm temperature also attracts most fishes, that is why they would stay in the waters of Guam for easy living. Your trip to Guam will be worth it all if you include this in your itinerary.

Sigua Falls
This falls is the largest waterfall in Guam and is made up of two parts namely the Upper and Lower Sigua Falls. And tourists who already experienced the trip to this falls have said that the Lower Sigua Falls is much fun than on the Upper. But it actually depends on the preference of the person. The location of the Sigua Falls is inaccessible by vehicles so one would take a sacrifice to walk on foot and even use a rope to go down a muddy hill. But don’t worry, once you get there, the hardship that you went will all be worth it. The name Sigua means 9 in the ancient Chamorro counting system.

Located on the north-east coast of Australia close to the state of Queensland, the Coral Sea Islands exhibit a wide array of healthy coral reefs and coral atolls. The islands are mostly uninhabited with the exception of Willis Island due to the lack of a permanent source of freshwater as well as only at most three square kilometers of land area. Numbering about 30 distance reefs and atolls, 12 of these are submerged during high tide. Many of its islands have also become nesting places for birds and turtles. As of now, since there are no permanent human settlements in the Coral Sea Islands, its natural ecosystems have been greatly preserved.

Diamond Islets
On the eastern part of the Coral Sea Islands lies the Diamond Islets that are submerged during high tide or deep waters. It has been found to be a good place for fishing dogtooth tuna and other species such as the black marlin and the trevally. From above, one can see the shape of an arrow head formed by these islets. There are actually four smaller islets that form the Diamond Islets. Its terrain is partially filled with grass and low shrubs. And just like any other islands of the Coral Sea, it has prominent coral reef formations that surround its coast. Although the Diamond Islets are uninhabited, the place is one of the few where one can spend time and discover more about the Coral Sea Islands.

Willis Island
Located directly East near the city of Cairns, Willis Island is the only one among the Coral Sea Islands with permanent human settlement. It is only part of the three cays and reef formations called the Willis Islet, Willis Island as being the largest among the three. There are weather stations positioned on the island to track the weather changes in case of upcoming cyclones. It has also been home for many species of birds such as the White-Capped Noddies, Red-footed Booby and Muttonbird. Due to the fact that this island is inhabited, the place has also been experiencing pollution. It is the most polluted among the islands of the Coral Sea.

Lihou Reef
Lying south-east outside the coast of Cairns, Lihou Reef ranks second largest in atoll size, after Chesterfield Islands, in the Coral Sea. Its area has become a natural reserve to keep its health biological environment and to protect its aquatics life and the many seabirds and green turtles that nest along the atoll. It supports a variety of marine life, from algae to crustaceans to dolphins that can be found near its area. As a result, Lihou Reef has become a valuable asset in the study of marine life and biological systems.

Osprey Reef
A great diving spot off the coast of Cairns, the Osprey Reef has become isolated from the rest of the islands by a deep-water trench. Its diverse marine life has also become a great study for marine biologists and a popular destination for tourists who want to try diving and scuba diving into its depths. Their pristine water is known for its shark feeds being one of the best places in Australia to encounter sharks. Minke whales, barracuda and dogtooth tuna have also been found to be swim across the reef.

Wreck Reef
South of the Coral Sea Islands, east of the city of Gladstone lies the Wreck Reef notorious for the many ship wrecks that has occurred on this site. Matthew Flinders gave the reef its name after being shipwrecked with many others. There are three known islets lying across the reef namely Bird Islet, Porpoise Islet and West Islet. It also shares the same continental mass as Kenn Reef. This reef is popular among those who love to fish as it contains numerous species of marlin, yellow fin and wahoo.
